What began more than a decade ago with just eight families has today become a lifeline for 80 families each month and a beacon of transformation for hundreds more. The Food Bank Program, one of the core pillars of Pertubuhan Kebajikan Destiny Metro (PKDM), is more than just monthly food assistance. It is a coordinated, volunteer-powered movement to restore dignity, build stability, and uplift communities in need.
Every month, essential dry goods and food vouchers are distributed to selected B40 families prioritizing widows, single parents, the elderly, and those with ill health.
Behind the Scenes
Packing Team, The Heart of the Store
Volunteers at our store work in teams to pack dozens of food parcels with rice, oil, canned goods, dried noodles, flour, and other staples. Their hands move quickly, but always with care knowing each pack will bring relief to a household.

Delivery Team, Braving the Journey
Once packed, the food parcels are passed on to the delivery volunteers, whose tasks are both physically and logistically demanding. These volunteers carry heavy loads, sometimes up staircases in walk-up flats and navigate around changing addresses or recipients who’ve switched off their phones. But they keep going because they know the impact of a missed delivery is more than just food it’s hope delayed.
Review Team, Ensuring Fairness and Growth
Every six months, a group of volunteers carefully reviews the condition of each beneficiary. If a family has improved their circumstances, they may “graduate” from the program making way for a new family in need. This dynamic approach ensures the program remains impactful, equitable, and responsive.
Beyond Food
The needs of our families often extend beyond groceries and so does our response.
PKDM steps in with:
Milk powder and diapers for families with young children.
School supplies, uniforms, bags, and shoes for students, especially during the start of a new term.
Used or beloved digital tools such as laptops and computers, donated by kind individuals, which enable students to complete schoolwork and college assignments.
Tuition and educational support for school-going children who are falling behind.
Vocational or tertiary education pathways for teens nearing graduation, connecting them to relevant training programs or institutions.
Job placement assistance for recipients who are ready and able to work, empowering them to sustain their families independently.
Engagement and Empowerment Through Community Events
To build trust and promote holistic growth, PKDM also organizes Educational and Health Carnivals. These events bring families together, promote learning and awareness, and open doors to additional services. Whether it's a health screening booth or a workshop on financial literacy, these gatherings add tremendous value to our mission of community transformation.
The Bigger Picture
At PKDM, food is just the beginning. The Food Bank Program is rooted in relationship, compassion, and progress. It is a platform where communities are not only fed, but heard, guided, and empowered.
We believe transformation happens when we address the whole person not just the hunger in their stomach but the dreams, struggles, and untapped potential in their lives.

Join Hands, Pack Hope.
Become a part of something meaningful volunteer with our Food Bank team and help deliver more than just food. Together, we can nourish lives and uplift families in need.
